A scissor lift is an aerial work platform that moves vertically to enable users to reach heights of up to 20m. The mechanism creates a criss-cross ‘X’ pattern as it rises and lowers, much like a pair of scissors. Scissor lifts are used for construction, maintenance, repairs and general access to high or difficult areas and are utilised by many different industries.
Scissor lifts are meant for temporary works and can be transported to site either loaded onto a trailer or under their own power. There are several types of fuel available, including diesel, battery, bi-fuel, LPG and air-powered units. Scissor lifts come in a variety of sizes to suit different applications – compact and micro scissor lifts are available for tight access areas, for example.
Scissor lifts are controlled by an operator either on the platform or at the base of the unit, or even by remote control. For a scissor lift, the main motion is vertical – moving up or down according to the required working height – whereas some other aerial platforms have a greater range of movement and rotation. However many scissor lifts have extending platforms to increase the working area and allow the operator to get closer to the area they need to operate on.
]]>
These types of platforms can be used in a variety of applications, including:
stock picking
maintenance
repairs
construction
events
tree surgery
high-angle filming
industrial
retail and commercial
military
institutional
warehouse
distributioin
aviation and aerospace
agriculture
railways
Scissor lifts require training to operate, and can be dangerous if used without proper instruction and supervision. Regular maintenance and repairs must be carried out on your scissor lift to ensure good working order at all times. Aerial work platforms can be hazardous if not correctly used or maintained, and working at such a height is extremely dangerous. Many powered access equipment companies will provide training, maintenance and repair services according to your needs.
Other types of aerial work platforms are sometimes more appropriate than a scissor lift, for example a boom lift or cherry picker has a wider range of movement than a scissor lift, and a personnel lift is generally more compact and therefore is able to access tighter areas.

Aerial Lifts: Chairlift
Product Description
Chapters: Chairlift. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 64. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: An elevated passenger ropeway, or chairlift, is a type of aerial lift, which consists of a continuously circulating steel cable loop strung between two end terminals and usually over intermediate towers, carrying a series of chairs. They are the primary onhill transport at most ski areas (in such cases referred to as ‘skilifts’), but are also found at amusement parks, various tourist attractions, and increasingly, in urban transport. Depending on carrier size and loading efficiency, a passenger ropeway can move up 4000 people per hour, and the fastest lifts achieve operating speeds of up to 12 m/s (26.8 mph; 43.2 km/h). The two-person double chair, which for many years was the workhorse of the ski industry, can move roughly 1200 people per hour at rope speeds of up to 2.5 m/s (8.2 ft/s). The four person detachable chairlift (“high-speed quad”) can transport 2400 people per hour with an average rope speed of 5 m/s (16.4 ft/s). Some bi and tri cable elevated-ropeways and reversible tramways achieve much greater operating speeds. Fixed-grip lifts are usually shorter than detachable-grip lifts due to rope load; the maximum vertical rise for a fixed grip chairlift is 300400 m (984.31,312 ft) and a length of about 1,200 m (3,937 ft), while detachable quads and “six-packs” can service a vertical rise of over 600 m (1,969 ft) and a line length of 2,000 m (6,562 ft). The Short Cut fixed triple chairlift at The Canyons in Park City, UtahA chairlift consists of numerous components to provide safe efficient transport. Especially at ski areas, chairlifts are referred to with a ski industry vernacular. Chapters: List of Aerial Lifts in Japan. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 119. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Military history Aerial warfare is the use of military aircraft and other flying machines in warfare, including military airlift of cargo to further the national interests as was demonstrated in the Berlin Airlift. Developing from unpowered observation hot air balloons in the 18th century and even older kite, aerial warfare has become a high-technology affair that has led to many advances in technology and techniques such as propulsion, radar, and use of composites and engineered materials such as carbon fibers. The earliest documented aerial warfare took place in ancient China, when a manned Kite was set off to spy for military intelligence and communication. Ancient Chinese soldiers also mounted massive aerial fire arrow attacks from war kites, where they would send a volley of flaming arrows from the war kite onto the ground target, carrying out the world’s first-ever air attacks. In or around the 2nd or 3rd century, a prototype Hot air balloon, the Kongming lantern was invented in China serving as military communication. Some minor warfare use was made of balloons in the infancy of aeronautics. The first instance was by the French Aerostatic Corps at the Battle of Fleurus in 1794, who used a tethered balloon, L’entreprenant, to gain a vantage point. Balloons had disadvantages. They could not fly in bad weather, fog, or high winds. They were at the mercy of the winds and were also very large targets . Scissor Lifts ? Handy Equipment of Construction Sites
The scissor lifts also known as man lifts are versatile equipments that can be used for a wide variety of tasks. These equipments are very helpful in construction sites because they are designed to be particularly useful in cases where there is a narrow access. There are two particular situations where these equipments offer an ideal solution.
These scissor lifts are the ideal solution if you need to raise a platform for men to work from in some kind of shaft situation where it is impossible to get a boom lift. Since most of these equipments when retracted are small enough to fit through a standard single doorway, they are also sometimes taken inside a building for work purposes. Sometimes these scissor lifts are often taken inside offices or schools where people work in sound sensitive environment. In this situation they are fitted with low sound emission electric motors.
Another significant feature of scissor lifts is that their wheels enable a zero turning radius. This helps to maneuver it in very tight spaces and is also very useful for making minor adjustments from the platform when it is already fully extended. These equipments are truly a versatile tool because in this equipment you can also fit many attachments. For example, to the upper platform you can attach platform work lights to make your work a little easier.
Some platforms of this scissor lifts also have folding guard rails. When the equipment is retracted, these rails can fold completely to enable it to pass through lower doorways. When you need to use this equipment on unlevel grounds, the self-leveling part comes in handy. These are the legs of the equipment which are pushed down on the ground to stabilize the base. In contrast to these equipments, the materials handling equipment relates to storage, protection and control of materials, products and goods all through the process of manufacture, distribution, consumption and disposal. Material handling is a major part of all commercial activity. How you handle the material, how it is packed and in what condition the materials are received by the receiver are some of the things which should be kept in mind when handling materials.
These materials handling equipment is utilized to increase output, control cost and to maximize the profit. These equipments are chiefly classified into four categories. They are the storage equipment, industrial trucks, bulk handling and engineering system. There are many ways to improve the efficiency of these materials handling equipment for achieving maximum productivity. This can be done by capturing every relevant data related to the operation, time management on handling the materials from the moment it was ordered, utilizing the correct and proper way of utilizing the equipment and many more.
Among the different type of materials handling equipment, the storage handling equipments usually deals with non-automated equipment. Products like shelving, pallet rack, etc, belong to this category. The engineering system equipments are used in the processing and handling of suitable products or the ingredients. The industrial trucks refer to the operator that is driven by the motorized warehouse vehicle and bulk materials handling equipment is utilized for the movement and storage.

Scissor Lifts ? Simple & Efficient Tools to Handle Materials
Pallet truck is a tool to lift and move pallets. It can be a little daunting and overwhelming process if you are a newbie looking forward to purchasing them. Since there are many models available, it is important to buy the right one in keeping with your needs so that you can save both money and time. Here are some pointers which you should know about these material-handling trucks.
Pallet truck for worksites needs to be a little tougher than the average trucks particularly the wheels. This is because the wheels can get punctured while rolling over bumpy floors, over nails and screws at the worksites. Rough Terrain pallet truck is a better option for worksites as it can better cope with rough floors and surroundings. These trucks can be bought as well as hired. But, before you choose any of these options, observe how much work needs to be done by the truck. Or else it may be more economical for you to buy the trucks than to hire them.
Both these options have their pros and cons. If you buy a pallet truck, it will be at your disposal whenever you need it. But if you hire one, you don’t have to worry about repairs or damages. With this option, you can simply receive equipment in good condition every time you hire. This is also one of the important options you should consider when you buy these trucks.
You can also buy a used pallet truck at cheaper prices but the main disadvantage of this is that you can never be sure of the condition the equipment is in. You may end up paying extra for the repairs after the purchase. So, before you buy this equipment, ensure that it is in perfect working condition. Along with these trucks, scissor lifts help heavy materials to be moved vertically. The most common use of this tool is to lift up and down materials from one floor to the other at a construction site.
The scissor lifts are commonly used in industrial, construction and commercial work environment. This equipment allows transference of materials safely and efficiently. It has greatly facilitated the construction operations. The work which used to be done by many workers and require lots of effort can now be done using scissor lifts. Risks of injuries have been reduced by the proper use of this equipment. This equipment has also opened up new possibilities to transfer materials to much higher levels than before. This is also true when we want to move items down from top to lower floors.
The features, performance and capacity of these equipments have improved notably from the time they were first introduced. The functional lift available in the market today has capacity up to 4000lbs and with height ranging up to 35 ft. As demand for these equipments is rising, the manufactures have introduced these equipments with bigger capacity. The scissor lifts are sometimes integrated into automobiles such as vans and pick-up trucks. Such equipment usually has a capacity of 10,000 lbs with height ranging up to 20ft.
